Unit 2: Synthesis (of your chosen Design idea)

After you have Evaluated your Designs Ideas you need to Synthesise them by combining the best parts and looking at different variations of them.

Synthesis is about developing your best design. You need to state which design idea/s you are developing.

You then need to experiment with your designs using S.C.A.M.P.E.R:

S - Substitute, C - Combine, A - Adapt, M - Modify, P - Put to another use, E - Eliminate, R - Re-arrange

You need to:

create one very detailed sheet showing your refined ideas.

use one or two point Perspective sketches to give an impression of what your Restaurant will look like.

use Copic markers, Photoshop or fineliner sketching or a combination of methods.

use images where appropriate to show the type of furniture and fittings you would like to use

(you do not have to draw every single item!)

ensure that your page is packed with information - do not have big areas of empty space!

include appropriate comments.

look and discuss the range of examples below with a partner.

what elements do you think would be good to include in your synthesis sheet?

Your synthesis could be done as a large 1 Point Perspective.

The example shown to the right was hand sketched and then scanned. Colour was added using Photoshop and a Wacom Tablet but you can use Copic Markers if you prefer.

Your Synthesis should be based on parts of your Design Ideas but can include some new ideas.

The stages used to create the drawing are shown below.

After the hand drawn sketch was scanned the rest was done using Photoshop.
