Pencils |
Grey pencils are measured by H, HB and B ranges. 2H to 6H are used for construction lines and sketching.
2B to 6B are used for Shading

Ruler |
Basic 300 mm Ruler used for measuring at various stages of the design process |

Set Squares |
Used to draw specific Orthographic and Isometric Angles.
Isometric Set Square has 30 and 60 degree angles
Orthographic Set Square has 45 degree angle |

Technical Pen |
Technical Pens can be refillable or throw away.
They come in a range of sizes. Common ones are 5mm, 7mm and 10 mm.
They are used to outline design sketches, produce formal Orthographic drawings and for applying textures and shade to sketches (hatching, cross hatching etc) |

Protractor |
Used for measuring Angles
Can be Full or Half sized |

Pair of Compasses |
Can be used with Pencils or Technical Pens
Used to draw accurate circles or arcs |

Drawing Board |
Drawing boards are used, with set squares and technical pens, to create more formal drawings.
These may include Orthographic and dimensioned drawings |

Underlays |
Underlay sheets come in many shapes and sizes. They are placed under paper and used as guidelines to aid freehand sketching and designing.
The most commonly used ones are Orthographic (squared) and Isometric. |

Circle Guides |
Used as an alternative to a Compass.
They are used to accurately draw circles of a set diameter. |

Ellipse Guides |
Used in a similar way to Circle Guides.
Are generally used in 3D Isometric drawings. |

Markers |
Are used for creating Design Sketches.
Colour can be 'blended' to create realistic 3D drawings.
They can have different nib types.
They are often used in conjunction with Purple and White pencils that are used to apply additional highlights and lowlights to sketches. |

Lightpads |
Lightpads and Lightboxes are used to light up drawings from below.
They are used to make 'Tracing' easier |

Tablet |
Tablets are connec ted to a computer either by USB or Wireless.
The pen is used to 'draw' onscreen.
Used widely with software like Sketchbook Designer and Photoshop. |
