Surface Textures

Sometimes it is desirable to make a design appear to be made from a particular Material or have a particular Texture.

Texture effects can be created using a wide range of techniques and media. Below are some examples.

 

Wood effect - Wood grain added by drawing darker brown lines over a lighter brown background. Black Thick and Thin lines can be used to emphasise edges.

Metalic effect achieved by using White Pencil (or Pastel) onto Black card. Techical Pens can be used to sharpen edges.

Yellow and White Pencils have been used on coloured card to create this Jewellery design. Technical Pen outlines are used to sharpen the drawing.

Marker Pens can be used to create Plastic textures. Technical Pens and Purple and White Pencils can be used over the top to create highlight and lowlight effects.

Parallel lines drawn with a Technical Pen can be used to give the appearance of Glass and Transparent Plastic.

Texture 26-7, 208-210, Plastics 87,88, Ceramics 90, Fabric & Textiles 84-6, Metal 86-7
