Internal Assessment 2 (IA2) - Design Project 35%

You will be provided with a Context that introduces you to the stakeholder/s and gives you some background information relating to them. You will also be given a guiding question that you will need to interpret and answer through your design project. You will be required to use designing with empathy as an approach to help you to understand and experience the needs and wants of your identified stakeholders. You MUST stick to the page limits shown above.

In order to do this successfully complete your project you will need to ensure that you address the following Assessment Objectives:

Exploring	describe the features that define a Human Centred Design (HCD) problem and design criteria based on stakeholders’ requirements and principles of good design	10
	analyse needs and wants using primary data about stakeholders and secondary data about existing designs and HCD information
Devising	devise ideas using divergent thinking strategies in response to the HCD problem in the develop phase	7
Evaluating	evaluate the Strengths, Limitations and Implications (SLI) of ideas and HCD concept against design criteria to make refinements	10
Synthesising	synthesise ideas and HCD information to propose a HCD concept in the develop phase
Representing and communicating	represent ideas, a design concept and HCD information using ideation sketching, schematic sketching and low-fidelity prototyping in the explore and develop phases	8
	make decisions about and use visual, written and spoken communication to present a design brief and design proposal for stakeholders.

Example of a High Level IA2 Folio (from QCAA)

Preparation

You will be given the IA2 Task Sheet at the start of Term 1 2021. You are advised to use a similar approach and folio layout to the Action Camera (FA2) and Fusion Street Kitchen (FA3) projects you completed in Units 1 & 2. You will NOT be provided with a Design Brief. The choice of specific problem is up to you so you will have to determine if the solution needs to be based on a product, service or environment. You will need to draw upon previous experience and consider your own strengths in terms of whether you decide to complete a Graphic, Product or Architectural type project. NOTE: It would be beneficial to you to have a real stakeholder that you can talk to. Getting authentic feedback on design ideas would be a great help to you.
